Pub News - April 2009

Grape and Grain , Crystal Palace

The Grape and Grain located at Crystal Palace opened on the evening of the 3rd April. Rick Wright (pictured right) the Landlord has a array of 8 real ales on offer including beers from local microbreweries such as Sambrooks and Westerhams and offer a disount to CAMRA members. The pub has not served real ale for many years and has had many names including the Occaisional Half, Sportsman, Crystal Palace Tavern and most latterly Jack Beards at the Palace. We wish Rick and his team success in running this pub. The Grape and Grain is also one of the first 2 pubs in the branch to sign up to the LocAle scheme. DPP_0308

Cask Ale Week Beer Festivals

As part of the recent national cask ale week several pubs hosted Beer Festivals. These pubs include Five Bells Chelsfield, Prince Regent Herne Hill, Hoopers Bar East Dulwich and Honor Oak Forest Hill. A highlight of this was the Meet the Brewer evening with the brewers from Sambrooks in Battersea at Hoopers. Pictured right is Duncan Sambrook and David Welsh with landlord Jamie Hooper. Hoopers is also the other pub to have joined the LocAle scheme which was kicked off with a beer from each London brewery served at the beer festival. Meet the Brewer

First Greenwich Beer and Jazz festival

We held our annual Beer festival this year 16th to the 20th July. It was part of the Greenwich Beer and Jazz festival, in association with PWR events, held outdoors in marquees in the grounds of a splendid location at the Old Royal Naval College Greenwich.

We had over 7,500 attendees and sold 120 kils (14832 pints) of beer, 2200 pints of cider and much foreign beer and signed up 31 new members.

A great time was had by all. Some pictures of the event are below.

We will have our first planning meeting at the end of November for next years festival. We are hoping to return to Greenwich in July and have already done some advance planning at GBBF!
